 M) was established. \n\nThe US Army Intelligence and Security Command (INS
 COM) began at Arlington Hall Station in Virginia on 1 January 1977. INSCOM
  was organized as a result of the Army's Intelligence Organization and Sta
 tioning Study (IONS) -- an in-depth look at Army intelligence requirements
  initiated in 1975. Three main elements were originally combined to form I
 NSCOM in 1977: the US Army Security Agency (USASA)\; US Army Intelligence 
 Agency (USAINTA)\; and a number of different intelligence production agenc
 ies\, most of which had been under the Assistant Chief of Staff for Intell
 igence (ACSI) for direct control. In its first seven years\, INSCOM grew i
 n strength from 10\,400 to 15\,000 personnel.\n\n
