X-WR-CALDESC:Mr. Charles Tevis was a pioneering advocate for space-based si
 gnals intelligence collection at NSA in the late 1950s. He advocated using
  satellites to collect telemetry from foreign strategic weapon systems\, w
 hich resulted in the deployment of several novel space-based signals intel
 ligence collection systems. In the late 1960s\, Mr. Tevis also was instrum
 ental in founding the Defense Special Missile and Astronautics Center (DEF
 SMAC). This made integrated intelligence available to policymakers. In 196
 4\, Tevis was appointed DEFSMAC’s first director by the secretary of defen
 se. Charles Tevis was inducted into the NSA/CSS Hall of Honor in 2002. He
