OBITUARY

Donald Terry Stivers, age 89, passed away on January 12, 2026, in Salisbury, Maryland. Born on November 17, 1936, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Vernon Y. Stivers and Rosa Belle (Bennett) Stivers.

In 1954 Donald joined the Army National Guard, serving in the Reserves for 9 years until 1963, when he received an honorable discharge.  He had a long career with the Department of Defense, going to work there in 1968, and retiring after 44 years. He was a former member of the Phoenix Society. Don’s career was his passion – he was patriotic, dedicated, and inspired many with his enthusiastic optimism and energy, and “no problem” attitude. After retirement, he worked for DPC Technologies, which became Northrop Grumman. Later he started a small business venture, Chery Industries, in partnership with his wife, Chery.

After many adventures, he settled down to enjoy his Ocean City home, and the beach where he was most comfortable. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Jack Vernon Stivers and Robert Frederick Stivers. He is survived by his loving wife Kathryn Cheryl Stivers and his children – Michael Orcino Stivers, Rose Anna Stivers, and Donna Marie Stivers.

Donald cherished his wife, Chery; loved his children and close friends deeply. He loved the ocean. He also loved helping people, and he touched so many lives with his presence, his kindness, his smile, and his generosity. He will truly be missed.

Cremation followed his death. A funeral service was held on Tuesday January 20, 2026, at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church in Ocean City, Maryland at 11:00 am. Letters of condolence may be sent to the family via www.burbagefuneralhome.com.
